ESP pumps are one of the most diffused artificial lift technologies.
They have gained their reputation thanks to the fact that they can provide high production rates and work in extreme conditions, deep inside the well. On the contrary, long-term experience in its use has proven some undisputable weaknesses:
- Impellers wearing, with loss of productivity, due to H2S corrosion, or action of abrasive particles.
- Power cable breakage due to instant pressure variations and abrasiveness of the flow.
- Electrical motor heating, due to the underground installation.
Even if some technical solutions have been developed to ameliorate these shortcomings, the result is only a relatively brief extension of their lifetime.
The most registered complaint, among those who appreciate this technology is the maintenance cost, mainly due to the complex activity of pump removal and replacement. This activity normally requires the presence of a workover rig, or some sort of ringless coil, not always or immediately available.
Maintenance costs added to long-time interrupted production can dramatically affect the overall performance of the site.
Sinergia with its On-site N2 artificial lift system, answers to this issue, by keeping the well productive all the time needed to get the ESP maintenance performed, or at least, all the time needed for the workover rig to be installed for the pump substitution (again, if available…).
The system, composed of a nitrogen generator and compressor for injection up to 350 barg, thanks to its containerized, movable, plug-and-play design, can be easily installed in parallel with the ESP pump.
N2 injection can be activated through a coil tubing or hose, or eventually through the vent line of the same ESP pump as long as it’s in place.
